IRIS 42: Information and Research Instruction Suite for two-year colleges

The Deep Web

Why should You Care?

What if I told you there's 500 times* more information in the deep Web than you can get to using a search engine like Google or Yahoo?

You might say, "So what? I can get to more than 20 billion web pages using a search engine like Yahoo. Isn't that enough?"

Then I'd say, "No. In research it's not about quantity, it's about quality. And there's a lot of quality information in the deep web."

As a student, you want the best information without wasting a lot of time. If you understand the concept of the deep Web, you will be more efficient at finding information. You'll be able to find better information in less time.

Learning Outcomes

After reading about the deep Web, students should be able to:

  • Explain the relationship between search engines and the deep web.
  • Describe how to access deep Web resources.
