Tips to keep you out of trouble
You might be interested to know that librarians, and probably even your instructors, turn to Wikipedia for quick information. They understand the limits of Wikipedia, and they know that these limits create a lack of credibility that makes the articles an undesirable source for serious research.
So use Wikipedia. We can't stop you from that. But use it wisely:
- Never, ever use Wikipedia articles in your final source list.
- Use Wikipedia as a jumping-off point in your research, to get ideas or gather information.
- Never, ever use articles from Wikipedia in your final source list.
- If you find information in Wikipedia that you want to use, locate another, more credible source with the same information.
- Never, ever use Wikipedia articles in your final source list.
- Remember that every source you use in your college work should meet the evaluation criteria covered in the Evaluation modules.
