The Subject Field

The power behind library catalogs

The subject field is often overlooked and more often misunderstood. The subject field is what makes the library catalog superior to many other information databases. The subject field might also be called Library of Congress Subject Headings, L.C. Subject, Subject(s), Related Subjects, or something similar.

The subhect heading fields from differnt library catalogs may look different, but tey do the same thing - lead you to more books on your topic.
Searching the subject field can provide more accurate results, especially if you're searching a very specific subject or looking for something in a very large library.
