Building a Search Statement
Reviewing what you've learned
The easiest way to build a search statement is to:
- identify your main search terms
- get rid of the "little" words and "fuzzy" words
- insert the Boolean Operator AND in between the remaining words
- put phrases in quotation marks
- use the truncation symbol where appropriate
Here are examples of basic search statements (Notice the * (asterisk) has been used as a truncation symbol.):
- pet* and therapy and elderly
- "health care" and child*
- "school lunch*" and nutrit* and grade*
- "cell phone*" and driv*
