Acknowledge in Two Places

Tip to remember: Point to the List

Generally, in written projects you acknowledge, or cite sources, in two places:

  1. First: Create the bibliographic citation (complete description of the source) that will go in the Bibliography (list at the end of your paper)
  2. Second: Put a brief reference to the source in the body of your work, right next to where the information is used. This is called a brief citation or in-text citation. The brief citation is usually the author's last name, and possibly, page numbers or dates. The purpose of this brief reference (or in-text-citation) is to point your reader to the full reference (citation) in the Bibliography.

As your reader reads your paper, the in-text citations point to the full citation in the list of citations in the bibliography. See what it looks like on the next page.
